A review of Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, a new disorder in the DSM-5
Authors
Abstract:
Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) is a new disorder that has been added to the mood disorders category in the Fifth Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to distinguish chronic non-periodic irritability from periodic irritability of bipolar disorder. The main feature of DMDD is chronic and severe irritability. Since it is a new diagnostic entity, not much research has been done on it and the literature on it is still expanding. The purpose of this review article is to gather information about the diagnosis, epidemiology, comorbidities, etiology and risk factors, and treatment approaches for this disorder.
